Etzler Crowned Miss Spokane

Sarah Etzler, 21, was crowned Miss Spokane on Saturday night at the 1996 ceremony in Spokane Falls Community College’s Music Building.

Etzler is a junior at Washington State University, where she majors in broadcasting. She is on the President’s Honor Roll, a member of Alpha Omicron Pi, and a member of the Coug Guys and Gals. A vocalist, Etzler will now compete for the Miss Washington title.

Nikki Naumowicz was named first runner up. The 21-year-old vocalist attends Eastern Washington University and is a former Miss Eastern. Naumowicz volunteers at Ogden Hall and aspires to become a teacher.

Katherine Copple, also 21, was second runner up. The Gonzaga University senior majors in history and has a 3.97 gpa.

Julie Rogers, a 23-year-old Eastern Washington University student, was third runner up. Rogers, a public relations major, plays the flute and works at Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Etzler also won the Touch of Class Award, while Rogers won the Miss Congeniality Award. The Director’s Award went to Rhonda Ferns.

An awards reception was held at the Holiday Inn-Indian Canyon after the program.
