German Military Plane Crashes

Compiled From Wire Services

A German military aircraft exploded after takeoff and crashed into the sea Sunday off the Azores islands, killing all seven people aboard, the Portuguese national news agency Lusa reported.

The plane made a stop in the Azores on its way to St. Johns in Canada, Lusa reported, quoting Portuguese air force sources. The crash occurred at 8:15 p.m., the agency said.

Two bodies were recovered and the search continued for the other victims, navy officials in the Azores said.
