Pete Wilson Backs Dole For President

Compiled From Wire Services

Gov. Pete Wilson of California, whose abortive try for the Republican presidential nomination failed to attract sufficient money, excitement or public support, Monday endorsed the candidacy of Sen. Bob Dole of Kansas.

“Bob Dole is a fighter for what he believes,” Wilson said in making his announcement at Dole campaign headquarters in Washington. “I admire that. And he is a winner.”

In endorsing Dole’s bid for the nomination, Wilson said he was not seeking the vice presidential spot and would not accept such a position if it was offered.
