Apples Hit The Internet

Associated Press

Ed Kershaw wanted a way for apple growers and shippers to exchange the latest market information quickly and legally.

Enter the Internet.

Kershaw, a Washington Apple Commission board member and part owner of Kershaw Fruit Co. in Yakima, and 20 other shippers invested in research a year ago and they came up with a home page called the Tree Fruit Directory.

“It will be a single information source for shippers and growers alike,” Kershaw said of the cyberspace address. “The system will be rapid, timely and very effective.”

Because there are legal restrictions on how shippers and growers can exchange information, the Internet home page fit the bill perfectly, Kershaw said.
