Mary Ives Priest River, Idaho

Service for Mary Thea Ives, 71, will be at 1 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery Chapel in Missoula with burial to follow. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Born in Parker, Idaho, Mrs. Ives died Wednesday.

She had lived in Priest River for 12 years and was a medical secretary and medical care-giver.

She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Ray Ives; five daughters, Mary Davidson of Spokane, Carrie Brumley and Trena Brooks, both of Priest River, Bettyrae Jordon of New Orleans, and Brenda Payne of Ashton, Idaho; four sons, Dave Brown of Missoula, Ted Orgill of Rigby, Idaho, and Frank and Chuck Ives, both of Hamilton, Mont.; one sister, Vilda Peterson of St. George, Utah; four brothers, George Larson of Wendell, Idaho, Edwin Larson of Parker, Don Coy Larson of St. Anthony, Idaho, and Cleon Rhodehouse of Idaho Falls; 33 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Dean Merriman Cheney

Memorial service for Dean D. Merriman, 93, will be at 1 p.m. today at Cheney Funeral Chapel. The urn will be buried at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Cheney Funeral Chapel is in charge of cremation.

Mr. Merriman, who died Oct. 7, was born in Lind, Wash.

He was a farmer, and was a member of the Cheney chapter of the International Order of Odd Fellows.

He is survived by one nephew, Bayard Merriman of Spokane; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

Helen Lewis Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Helen Elizabeth Lewis, 77, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lewis, who was born in New York, N.Y., died Wednesday.

She grew up and graduated from high school in New York and married John Korey.

She worked at a bomb factory in New York during World War II and later moved to Goshen, N. Y.

Her first husband died in 1962 and she married Dale Lewis the same year. They owned and operated a horse racing stable in Goshen before divorcing.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1980.

She enjoyed knitting, gardening and playing cards.

Survivors are two sons, Richard Korey and Thomas Korey, both of New York; one daughter, Elaine Wade of Rathdrum; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Theodore Marple Boise

Service for Theodore L. “Vern” Marple, 77, will be today at 11 a.m. at Cloverdale Funeral Home in Boise. Burial will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery in Boise. Cloverdale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Marple, who was born in Oakesdale, Wash., died Wednesday .

He married Mildred Thorson in 1943 and they moved to Palmer, Ark., in 1950, where he worked for the Matanuska Maid Creamery for 21 years.

He moved to Spokane in 1976 and was a wheat farmer in Oakesdale.

He moved to Boise in 1995.

He enjoyed his family and loved taking people out for meals. He especially enjoyed restaurants in Eagle, Idaho; Plummer, Idaho; and the Spokane Valley.

Mr. Marple loved his dog, and hunting and fishing in Alaska.

Survivors include his wife, at home; one son, Ron Marple of Boise; three daughters, Susan Bolen and Julie Walton, both of Boise, and Sharon Brilla of Reardan, Wash; one sister, Maxine Noble of Langley, Wash.; one brother, Jerold Marple of Spokane; seven grandchildren one great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert Jens Spokane

Private graveside service for Robert Dean Jens, 80, will be held today at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Jens, who was born in Sandpoint, died Sunday.

He graduated from high school in Roundup, Mont., and had lived in Spokane since 1952. He worked as an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration at Geiger Field and Fairchild Air Force Base. He retired in 1970.

He served in the Air Force for a short time and was honorably discharged in 1942.

He was a member of Sundance Golf Course Men’s Club.

He is survived by his wife, Frances “Frankie” Jens; one brother, Pete Jens of Roundup; and two sons, Mike Jens of Anchorage, Alaska, and Greg Jens of Spokane.

Charles Henry Elk

Service for Charles Clifford Henry, 72, will be at 11 a.m. today at Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park. Burial will follow at 1:15 p.m. at Reardan (Wash.) Community Cemetery.

Mr. Henry, a former Reardan resident, died Monday.

He was born in Hope, Idaho, and had lived in Elk for 45 years.

He graduated from high school in Reardan.

Mr. Henry was a cattle rancher in the Elk area and had served in Europe during World War II under Gen. George S. Patton.

He was a member of the Camden Grange.

He is survived by two brothers, Richard Henry of Elk and Robert “Rosie” Henry of Spokane; and one sister, Norma Lundgren of Spokane.

Mary McNew Laclede, Idaho

Graveside service for Mary Elizabeth McNew, 85, will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Seneacquoteen Cemetery near Laclede. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McNew, who was born in Pennsylvania, died Wednesday.

She grew up and attended schools in Texas. She moved to Tucson, Ariz., and married Gordon McNew in 1928. They later divorced.

She moved to Sandpoint in the 1940s and owned and operated the Lincoln Hotel for several years.

Mrs. McNew had worked for Ray Kincaid and Sayers Jewelry before buying the Dari Delite in the 1950s.

She moved to Goldendale, Wash., in 1960 and owned the Western Auto Store. She also lived in Tacoma and managed the McPropane Gas Co., until retiring to Sandpoint in 1969.

She loved ceramics and the outdoors. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing and traveling.

Survivors include a son, James McNew of Kootenai, Idaho; and a daughter, Carolyn Lepka of Pasco.

Memorials may be sent to the Sandpoint Senior Center or the Bonner County Animal Shelter.

Caroline Baum Veradale

Memorial service for Caroline Myrtle Baum, 86, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Veradale United Church of Christ. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Baum, who died Monday at home, was born in St. Louis.

She was a 46-year resident of Spokane and a member of the Veradale United Church of Christ since 1950.

Her husband of 52 years, Roland Baum, died in 1981.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirlee Augustine and Ann LaTurner, both of Spokane; one son, Ralph Baum of Issaquah, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Veradale United Church of Christ or Morning Star Boys Ranch.

Cecil Beckham Jr. Sandpoint

Memorial gathering for Cecil Beckham Jr., 69, will be today from noon to 6 p.m. at the family home in Sandpoint. English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Beckham, who was born in Dexter, Mo., died Monday in Spokane.

In 1989 he moved to Newman Lake from Colorado. In 1990 he moved to Coeur d’Alene and then to Sandpoint in 1994.

He married Sharon Enlow in 1990.

Mr. Beckham had worked as an auto mechanic and service manager before retiring.

He loved being with his family and friends and enjoyed fishing. He also enjoyed country singing and dancing.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Colorado and the Hayden Lake Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, at home; two sons, Scott Beckham of Canon City, Colo., and Sherman Beckham of Deer Park; three daughters, Diane Hinton and Tamara Carriger, both of Longview, Wash., and Cecelia Brock of Spokane; two stepsons, Jimmie Enlow of Olympia, and Wesley Enlow of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two stepdaughters, Naomi Terhaar and Joyce Delp, both of Coeur d’Alene; two sisters, Jean and Nedra; 27 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
