Boundary County Rejects Bond
A school bond levy attempt to build a high school and renovate four elementary schools in Boundary County was solidly defeated Thursday.
The levy received 44 percent of the vote, far below the two-thirds majority it needed to pass. The total number of votes counted was 2,524.
The $14.7 million levy was the first bond levy the school district had put to residents in 25 years.
The proposed high school would have held 800 students, allowing the existing high school to be used as a junior high.
For the past two decades, the school district had addressed its space needs on a piecemeal basis. School officials said the aging buildings are not adequate for the growing student population.
