Dale Jarrett overtook Mark Martin on the 249th lap and withstood one last challenge to win the Autolite Platinum 250 Busch Grand National at Richmond International Raceway at Richmond, Va.

Johnny Benson, the Busch series points leader, finished third to extend his overall lead over Spokane’s Chad Little to 206 points. Little finished 16th.

At Monterey, Calif., Jacques Villeneuve came up third in provisional qualifying for Sunday’s season-ending Bank of America 300, building momentum for one last big push for the IndyCar PPG Cup championship. He turned a lap of 112.914 mph on the picturesque 2.214-mile, 11-turn road course with less than 5 minutes left.

Dale Earnhardt, the third driver to hit the track in qualifying for the Miller 400, set a pace the 41 drivers behind him couldn’t match and won the pole at Richmond International Raceway at Richmond, Va. He averaged 122.543 mph on his second trip around the D-shaped circuit, 0.088 of a second faster than Winston Cup points leader Jeff Gordon.
