Rusty Wallace used a lightning-fast pit stop with 104 laps to go and a precise weave through slower traffic to win the Miller Genuine Draft 400 by 5.6 seconds over Terry Labonte in Richmond, Va.

Wallace, who started seventh, passed Winston Cup points leader Jeff Gordon on the 222nd lap and never looked back.

Jacques Villeneuve, trying to wrap up the IndyCar PPG Cup championship before he departs for Formula One, fought off a challenge from Bryan Herta to take the pole for today’s Bank of America 300 at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, Calif.

In Monza, Italy, David Coulthard, only in his second year on the Grand Prix circuit, beat world champion Michael Schumacher by 0.56 seconds and won the pole position for today’s Italian Grand Prix.
