Field Smoke Engulfs Post Falls
Smoke nearly swallowed Post Falls on Monday after winds swung from burning grass fields into the city.
Grass growers torched 346 acres of field in the State Line area starting at about noon, said Ed Honodel, weatherman for the Intermountain Grass Growers Association.
They stopped burning at about 3 p.m. after the wind changed. Honodel said it was probably the worst smoke Post Falls has seen this summer.
At about 3:25 p.m. the particulate level reached 159 micrograms per cubic meter of air in Post Falls, he said. Alert stage is reached when the particulate level hits 110.
