Idaho Defeats Gonzaga To Maintain Home Streak
The University of Idaho volleyball team lengthened its homecourt winning streak to 36 matches by sweeping Gonzaga 15-12, 15-10, and 15-2 Tuesday night in Memorial Gym.
Idaho was led by the play of true freshman Beth Craig and redshirt freshman Jessica Moore. Craig, a junior outside hitter, led the Vandals with 14 kills and a .500 hitting percentage while Moore came off the bench to record 12 kills with no errors and .706 hitting percentage.
Oregon State sophomore Val Williams scored an unconventional goal off a corner kick Tuesday to lead the 15th-ranked Beavers past WSU 1-0 at Pullman in the Pacific-10 Conference women’s soccer opener for both teams.
The Cougars (1-4-1) lost their fourth straight match, a school record, while the Beavers (6-1-0) are off to their best start.
Williams took a kick from the left corner and hooked a perfect ball just past the near post. WSU goalkeeper Jessica Glazer was shielded when an OSU attacker and the Cougars’ Tari Beck moved ahead of her in the box. Both players missed the ball, which ricocheted off Glazer’s hands into the goal less than 9 minutes into the match.
“It’s the most difficult of all our losses,” said WSU head coach Lisa Gozley.

Jill Fleming of Boise State was named Big Sky Conference player of the week after leading the Broncos (9-3) to the title in their Holiday Inn Classic.
Fleming, a 6-foot senior middle blocker from Reardan, averaged 2.87 kills and digs per game during match wins over St. Louis, Tennessee, Portland and Mississippi.
Following weekend wins over Southern Cal and UCLA, Washington State moved from 16th to 12th in the USA Today/AVCA coaches poll.
