Lake City Charges Back For Soccer Victory
Michelle Weger’s goal at the 50-minute mark Thursday lifted host Lake City (3-0-2, 4-2-2) to a 3-2 girls soccer win over Moscow (2-3-1, 3-3-1) at Coeur d’Alene.
The Timberwolves, second place in the league behind CdA, rebounded from a 2-0 deficit by returning to their original lineup. Kristi Jacobson and Kelly Rolland scored for LC, while Erica Mays and Emily Styer gave the fourth-place Bears a 2-0 lead in the first 13 minutes.
At Rathdrum, the host Hawks fell to Sandpoint’s junior varsity 6-0 as the Bulldogs had a 24-6 shots-on-goal advantage.
Football
Joe Ascolese scored three touchdowns to lead Gonzaga Prep (3-0) to a 49-7 win over McNally Composite of Edmonton, Alberta, at Spokane’s Albi Stadium.
Ascolese scored on an 89-yard punt return and a 41-yard pass from sophomore quarterback Kevin O’Connell in the second quarter to give the Bullpups at 28-0 halftime lead. The Tigers dropped to 1-1.
Volleyball
Bridgette O’Dwyer’s six kills and five blocks led St. Maries (5-0, 11-1) to a 15-12, 15-4 Intermountain League win over visiting Lakeland (1-4, 5-7).
Jamie Hammes added five kills and Angie Epler nine service points for the first-place Lumberjacks. For the Hawks, Amber Jamison had five kills, Cora Christensen three blocks, and Rachael McMullen and Jenni Borg three digs apiece.
At Kellogg, Christy Coil had seven kills and three blocks as visiting Priest River (5-1, 11-2) kept on the tail of St. Maries with a 15-13, 10-15, 16-14 win over the third-place Wildcats (3-2, 5-4).
Renie Stiles added five aces and four kills for the Spartans. Janelle Baillie had eight kills and Marcy Swift six aces for Kellogg.
Haley Scofield had nine kills and Adrianna Malley three aces as host Clark Fork beat Wallace 12-15, 15-12, 15-9 in a non-league match.
Sasha Storaasli and Angie Ponack added seven kills apiece for the Wampus Cats.
