U-Hi Storms Back To Knock Down Bears

Kristina McAuley finished the match with three consecutive kills Thursday as host University (4-2) overcame Central Valley 12-15, 6-15, 15-0, 15-7, 15-12 and moved into fourth place alone in Greater Spokane League volleyball.

CV (1-4) led the fifth game 12-9 before the Titans rallied. Devon Bakken tied McAuley with a team-high 16 kills and added four aces. Carrie Sanders led the Bears with 13 kills and 12 digs.

Aimee Wilson had 22 kills and Tamara Van Engelen added three aces and four blocks to lead North Central (3-3) over host Shadle Park 15-3, 10-15, 15-8, 15-11.

Sarah Menard added 22 assists for the Indians. Michelle Etter had 16 kills and five blocks for the Highlanders (1-6), who lost their record sixth straight.

Molly Jones had 21 assists as Ferris (5-1) kept the pressure on first-place Gonzaga Prep (5-0) with a 15-5, 15-10, 15-6 win at Rogers. K.C. Richards had nine kills and Darcy Ruemping nine digs for Ferris. Teana Scott of Rogers (0-6) had six kills and four blocks.

East Valley scored the final 13 points of the second game and went on to a 15-8, 15-8, 10-15, 15-11 Frontier League win at Colville (1-4).

Angela Overdorff had eight kills, five aces and three blocks for the Knights (3-1), who closed within one-half game of idle Clarkston. Nika Blackman had five kills and Jennifer Quimby nine assists for the Indians.

Frontier girls soccer

Freshman fullback Tanya Birchler scored in the first 3 minutes and midfielder Rachel Stewart added two goals in Cheney’s 5-0 win at Pullman (0-4-0).

Lisa Anderson added a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks (3-0-0), who tied Deer Park/Riverside for first place.

At West Valley, Melanie Burtzoff scored twice during a 4-minute period of the second half as the host Eagles (2-1-1) earned a 3-0 win over Medical Lake (1-3-0).Burtzoff’s first goal was off a corner kick from Gabrielle McClintock. WV’s Dawn Salfer scored from 25 yards out just before halftime. The Cardinals are 1-3-0.

Licia Arnot had two goals and an assist, and Kristina Manchester and Malea Schumacher had two goals apiece to guide EV (2-0-1) to a 7-1 win over host Colville (0-3-0). Trisha Throop scored Colville’s first goal of the year.
