You’ll Be Fat, Too, Buddy After Eating Your Camera

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

It happens all the time. A celebrity takes a swing at a photographer, or even pursues one and grabs the offending camera or videocam.

Why do these people, who live in the heat of camera lights, occasionally do this? “ER” star George Clooney has a credible answer.

“I’ve always been prepared to be photographed and followed and stuff like that,” said Clooney, whose aunt is actress-singer Rosemary Clooney and whose father, Nick, is a TV newsman.

“It’s 16-, 17-, 18-year-old kids. Seven of them with video cameras. And they stand in front of you and they’ll go - ‘Hey, who’s the fat girl you’re with?”’

Their goal, he says, is to get him angry enough to do something they can sue over - or demand money for the videotape.

Loose talk

Patricia Arquette on foregoing the obligatory love scene in her film “Beyond Rangoon” (in People magazine): “It’s dangerous for a young woman in Hollywood to desexualize herself, but sex didn’t belong in this movie. I’d have hated it if we were running through the jungle and started kissing each other.”

And all the girls he used to know send their regards

Julio Iglesias turns 52 today.

If Honey West married Eddie Money, she’d be…

Here’s a verbatim report from the Associated Press: “Rock singer Eddie Money has ruled out one name for his new baby boy: Owen.”

Her celebrity sure didn’t take her a fur piece

When last heard of, talk-show host Ricki Lake was set to be sentenced for her part in anti-fur demonstration at fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld’s New York offices. After sentencing, Lake is whining about her community service requirement, to clean subway stations and cars. She’d rather make Christmas baskets for AIDS patients or lecture kids about the disease. Yet, says a district attorney spokesman, “People who deface property usually are given public property to clean up. They don’t get to pick and choose.”

Her favorite, though, replicates the cover of a Spam can

If you’re wondering what to buy your favorite Brit-royal for Christmas, InStyle magazine reports that Queen Elizabeth likes wooden (not cardboard) jigsaw puzzles in the 500- to 800-piece range that feature landscapes of dogs, horses, the countryside and scenes from history.

Why stop there? Does she not have siblings, cousins?

So why does actress CCH Pounder (“ER”) have such an unusual name. “I felt I might need the power of my ancestors to see me through this journey,” she says. Her full name is Carol Christine Hilaria Pounder, which combines her grandmothers’ and godmother’s names.

Garcia’s letting his fans walk all over him

After having his star implanted Tuesday on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, 39-year-old actor Andy Garcia told the crowd, “I’m truly flattered by the tremendous embrace that I’ve been given by Hollywood.”
