Compiled By Mary Beth Donelan

The City of Spokane Youth Department appointed four people - two adults and two students - to serve with the Chase Youth Commission this year:

Doug Humphreys, a senior at Shadle Park High School, is involved in Young Life, football and baseball. He wants to help middle-school students find positive role models and avoid peer pressure to engage in drugs and alcohol.

Sandra Hayden is a graduate of Florida State University with a degree in marriage and family, and mass communications. She has experience in program development, evaluation and administration. She owns a small business, purchasing and restoring Victorian-era homes. She feels the commission should nurture and value diversity and involve businesses more in youth outreach.

Jamaica Vandolah, a junior at Rogers High School, participates in MESA (Mathematics, Engineering and Science Association) and Future Business Leaders of America. She has been involved with Girl Scouts and volunteers for the Neva-Wood COPS. She would like to see improved communications with youth and an increase in youth involvement in the community.

Don Williams, graduated with a degree in psychology from Gonzaga University and works for the Spokane County Juvenile Court Services. His community involvements include the Libby Teen Center Starting Committee, New Horizons Care Centers Board and the African American Forum. He is interested in developing more resources for youth and better coordination of services. He would also like to see more adults working in partnership with young people.

Kin Hing Leung, Spokane, was presented the 1995 Patient Care Award by SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals. Leung, a recent graduate of Washington State University’s College of Pharmacy, received $250 and an engraved plaque.
