Egghead Anticipates Loss For Quarter

From Staff And Wire Reports

Egghead Software predicted Tuesday a loss of about 21 cents per share for the quarter that will end Sept. 30.

Direct sales to business were down 20 percent in the first two months of the quarter and have continued to lag in September. Margins are narrower, according to a company news release.

But retail sales have increased. Although the chain has 16 fewer stores, revenues are up 20 percent through Sept. 23, and margins are wider.

Better-than-expected sales of Windows 95 and associated products have not been enough to lift total sales.

The estimates include costs associated with the move of some company operations to Spokane. , DataTimes
