Gsl At A Glance

LC 27, NC 13

Turning point

Just two plays after the Indians countered the Tigers’ opening touchdown with a Colin Turnbull field goal, Dealy Etter, who transferred to NC to LC for his senior season, popped through the line and raced 68 yards for a touchdown. Stars of the game

Etter, who later started a touchdown drive with a long run, had 104 yards in the first half. His previous high game this season was 28 yards. Give Turnbull credit, under miserable conditions he kicked field goals of 32 and 37 yards.

Notable

LC coach John Hook called the constant downpour the worst conditions for a game in his 13 years in the GSL. … A strange penalty indeed. LC quarterback Paul Mencke was called for a personel foul after he threw an incomplete pass. With the dead-ball penalty, the 15-yard markoff, the LC coaches thought, should have been from the line of scrimmage, not from 16 yards behind the line where the flag was dropped, and the down shouldn’t have been replayed. … Hook was pleased his Tigers played hard after losing last weekend on a last-second field goal. However, they didn’t always play smart, they had 13 penalties for 137 yards. … There were nine turnovers in the game.

Turning point

Josh Dolan, thrust into the lineup because of an injury, slogged through a steady downpour for 95 yards and a touchdown to give the visitors from Idaho the non-league win.

“It was great. It was fun. I loved it,” Dolan said after the Trojans improved to 5-0.

A week ago, when the Trojans beat Lewiston for the first time ever, Josh Mort rushed for 286 and hurt some ribs in the process.

Dolan stepped up, particularly in the second half when even Travis O’Briant couldn’t pass the soggy ball as effectively as in the first half. Dolan, a 5-foot-8, 175-pound junior picked up 64 yards on 14 carries in the scoreless second half, despite getting dinged on one play.

Despite the rain, O’Briant directed the Trojans smartly in the first half, hitting 11 of 19 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns.

The Highlanders were hurt by two fumbles in the first half, the second recovered by Post Falls on its own 6.
