The Slice At Least Someone Knows The Customer Is Always Right
You can almost always count on kids for a reality check.
A reader noted a grocery checkout clerk’s friendliness and his 7-year-old daughter said “Dad, she has to be friendly, you’re the customer.”
Slice answer: How is your occupation portrayed on TV or in the movies? Not too well, said Ken Stout, who sounded like a nice guy. He’s a truck driver. And just once he would like to see a trucker depicted as something other than a leering, bullying, beer-bellied macho slob.
Agree or disagree: Your vocabulary/ability to express yourself rises or falls depending on the relative verbal skills of those with whom you interact during the day.
Challenging the conventional wisdom: Way too much has been made of the late James Dean. OK, we used to think that red jacket was cool, too. But hey, that was back in 1974. It was like a law or something then. You HAD to think he was cool. Guess what? We got over it. Exhibit A: “Rebel Without a Cause,” on the Disney Channel tonight at 10 o’clock. Watch it and try not to laugh.
Gail Betty’s response to movie theaters not cleaning up debris between shows: “I’m buying a video recorder this week.”
We recommend: Woodchuck Draft Cider from Vermont.
Jack Hendrix wonders: How often do people find themselves in Riverfront Park’s Clock Tower Meadow without a watch and never think to look up for an answer to “What time is it?”
Don Clayton asks: “What alleged ‘work of art’ available for public view in Spokane do you consider the most offensive to the eye?”
(He’s no fan of what he called the “Vari-colored collection of scrap metal hanging on the west wall of the Chase Center at City Hall,” and the fountain at the corner of Spokane Falls Boulevard and Washington.)
Today’s Slice question: Which Spokane area business with a fleet of identifiable vans or trucks employs the best/worst drivers?
