Kingdome Food Declared Safe
The Seattle-King County Health Department is stepping up inspections and has declared the food at the Kingdome safe.
How safe?
“My 6-year-old and my wife are here and are eating hot dogs in the stand,” said health department director Alonzo Plough. “And I’ll be eating one in a moment.”
Plough made the announcement Saturday as fans streamed into the Kingdome to watch the Seattle Mariners practice. The M’s were opening the season on Sunday at home against the Chicago White Sox.
The Seattle Times recently reported that health inspectors had cited Kingdome food stands 158 times over the last three years for unsafe food handling and conditions.
Nearly all the violations were found at food stands run by Ogden Entertainment Services.
Plough said Ogden employees are being required to attend 120 hours of food-handling training, including the importance of hand washing.
All stands that are open have been approved by the health department.
Inspectors will conduct impromptu checks at the Dome this month.
