New Parks Director Named For Spokane
The city of Spokane is getting a new Parks and Recreation director.
Ange Taylor (pronounced Anj) starts work April 22 - more than a year after former director Frank McCoy retired to sail his 42-foot boat around the world.
Taylor, 54, has lived the past 23 years in Wenatchee, working for the Washington state Parks and Recreation Commission.
He’s served as the state’s Eastern Regional Manager the past three years, dealing with Spokane issues such as the Centennial Trail and Mount Spokane.
Taylor said Spokane’s Parks and Recreation Department is recognized around the state as “one of the finest. To come to one of the best is wonderful.”
As director, Taylor said he’d like to concentrate on maintenance of park grounds. “We need to be good stewards of what we have.”
City Manager Roger Crum said 110 people applied for the director’s spot, which will pay about $72,000 a year.
