Bowler Nearly Perfect

Compiled From Wire Services

Bob Learn Jr. started the day with a perfect game and was nearly perfect thereafter in a record-setting victory in the pro bowlers’ Flagship Open.

Despite averaging a record 282 for four games, Learn was hard pressed throughout. His 279-257 victory over Randy Pedersen in the final was the most decisive of the four.

Learn, the No. 5 qualifier, needed the 300 game in the opener of the final round to eliminate Johnny Petraglia, who shot 279. Learn then edged John Mazza 270-268 and Parker Bohn III 280-279 to reach the final match.
