A grand jury decided there was insufficient evidence to indict two Virginia Tech football players accused of raping a woman in their dormitory room.
The criminal aspect of the case is closed. Antonio Morrison and James Crawford remain defendants in a civil lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Roanoke.
Pitt receiver Demale Stanley remains paralyzed in his lower body after being hurt during a receiving drill on the second day of spring practice last month.
Stanley had a tracheotomy on Monday, but doctors then decided to remove the breathing device from his mouth and throat. They also reconnected his respirator. Stanley, from Belle Glade, Fla., had surgery March 22 for a broken neck and spinal damage after stumbling into a wall during an indoor practice.
Paralyzed Boston University hockey player Travis Roy came home to New England a day early after two months of rehabilitation for the spinal cord injury he suffered seconds into his first college game. Roy beamed as he wheeled himself through Logan International Airport after flying from Atlanta with his parents. He planned to spend a few days in Boston visiting friends before returning home to Maine.

Chris Washburn, the No. 1 draft pick of the Golden State Warriors in 1986 who was later kicked out of the NBA for substance abuse, was shot in the foot. The shooting occurred in a part of Hickory, N.C., known for drug activity, and Washburn was not seriously injured, police said.
