Symphony Takes Broqadway Tour
If the term “Bravo Broadway!” sounds familiar, that’s because this is the third “Bravo Broadway!” SuperPops concert in four years.
It’s back this year because it was such an unqualified success in its first two versions.
The concept is hard to argue with. It brings together three top Broadway performers, the Spokane Symphony and some of the best songs of both the modern age and the Golden Age of musical theater.
The concept remains the same this year, although the cast has changed. The only holdover is Keith Buterbaugh, a baritone. He is a veteran of both the Broadway and touring versions of “Phantom of the Opera,” as both the Phantom and Raoul.
He will be joined by soprano Jan Horvath, another member of the original Broadway “Phantom” cast, as both Christine and Carlotta. She also sang the role of Grizabella in “Cats,” Eva Peron in “Evita,” Nellie Forbush in “South Pacific” and Chava in “Fiddler on the Roof.”
The third member of the trio will be tenor Doug LaBrecque, who also sang the role of Raoul for a year in “Phantom of the Opera.” He was also in the national touring company of “Les Miserables.”
The program will focus on the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Expect to hear songs from “Carousel,” “South Pacific,” “Oklahoma!,” “Evita,” “Cats,” “Sunset Boulevard” and “Phantom of the Opera.”
Spokane Symphony music director Fabio Mechetti will conduct the orchestra in this, the final concert of the SuperPops season.
