Abdul-Jabbar Transfers

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, son of the former UCLA and Los Angeles Lakers star, has decided to transfer from Valparaiso University to a school closer to his family.

Abdul-Jabbar did not identify the school or say whether he hoped to continue playing basketball.

UCLA women’s basketball coach Kathy Olivier has received a contract extension and is now under contract through the 1998-99 season.

Jane Albright-Dieterle, 40, credited with turning around the Wisconsin women’s basketball program, checked into a hospital after complaining of severe head pain. Doctors discovered she has a rare brain hemorrhage and will remain hospitalized at least a week.
