Drowning Death Called Accident

Kootenai County authorities suspect a man found dead in Lake Pend Oreille slipped and fell into the water, then drowned.

Barry Siebert’s body was found in approximately 30 feet of water at Boileau’s Marina Saturday evening by recreational divers.

Preliminary results from an autopsy performed Monday showed no signs of foul play, said Kootenai County Sheriff’s Capt. Ben Wolfinger.

Siebert had been missing since Wednesday.

He lived on a boat at the marina and also worked there. On Wednesday evening, he picked up groceries at a store and then went to a bar, Wolfinger said.

He left the bar carrying the bags of groceries to the 24-foot cabin cruiser he lived in. The grocery bags were found at the lake bottom along with Siebert. “It looks like he slipped getting onto his boat,” Wolfinger said.
