Man Trying To Help Is Robbed

A Silver Valley man who tried to be a Good Samaritan became a crime victim instead.

Jesse Milsap, 36, was tied up, robbed and beaten Tuesday night after letting a stranger into his home to use the telephone, according to Shoshone County sheriff’s officials.

“He’s really in shock,” said Cpl. Mitch Alexander.

Milsap lives alone in a mobile home on the west fork of Pine Creek. About 9:15 p.m. Tuesday a stranger drove up to Milsap’s house and asked Milsap if he knew another man.

When Milsap said no, the stranger drove away, only to return about 10 minutes later, Alexander said.

Milsap found the man wandering around outside of his home, Alexander said. The man claimed he was looking for something he had dropped.

The man asked Milsap, “Can I use your phone. I need to make a collect call,” Alexander said.

Milsap let the man inside only to have the robber pull a stocking mask over his face and pull out a gun.

The robber tied up Milsap and began demanding, “I know you have money in the house,” Alexander said. The robber kicked Milsap several times and threatened to kill him and his dog.

Milsap told the man he only had money in his wallet and nothing else. After about 10 minutes, the robber left with about $50. Milsap was able to hop up, grab a knife and cut himself free, Alexander said.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, about 6 feet tall. He has a husky build, was clean-shaven and is believed to drive a red station wagon.

Alexander warned residents not to let strangers into their homes and asked them to instead call authorities if there is a problem.
