Kate McEwen lost her athletic scholarship on the University of Nebraska women’s basketball team, but the woman who was assaulted last year by football player Lawrence Phillips still has a home at NU if she wants it. Women’s basketball coach Angela Beck said that McEwen, a junior, can complete her education on an academic scholarship.

The athletic scholarship was withdrawn because McEwen has not played well for the past two years.

Phillips, expected to be in the top four picks in the NFL draft, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault charges as a result of the incident last Sept. 10.
