Organize Your Camping With This Simple Project

Don And Dave Runyan U-Bild Features

Camping season approaches, and with it comes the need for an easy way to bring kitchen supplies to the great outdoors.

This table-top camp kitchen is modeled after the “chuck boxes” used by the pioneers who traveled west in covered wagons. It holds everything but the kitchen sink: pots, pans, dishes, cups, silverware, utensils and canned goods, all in their own orderly compartments.

It also features a top that opens up for access to frequently used items and a front panel that swings down to provide counter space. After chow time is over and supplies are put away, the front and top panels fold in and latch.

Handles make it convenient to carry, and the whole thing folds up to a compact 30 inches long by 17 inches tall by 19 inches deep.

Do-it-yourselfers will find this project both inexpensive and easy to build. It requires one 4-by-8 sheet of exterior-grade fir plywood, one piece of pine or plywood shelving, a wooden dowel, handles, hinges, chain, screws, nails and glue. The project’s pieces (18 in all) are simply traced onto the plywood from full-size patterns, and then are cut out, sanded and assembled.

The Camp Kitchen plan, No. 213, is $6.95 and includes full-size traceable patterns, step-by-step instructions with photos, detailed diagrams and a shopping list and cutting schedule.

A package of three camp kitchen plans, No. C109, is $14.95 and includes this project and two others. A catalog picturing hundreds of projects is $3.95. Prices include postage and handling, (For first-class mail, add $1 per item up to $3 maximum).
