The topsy-turvy Greater Spokane League baseball chase added another crazy chapter Saturday as Central Valley, which started the year 1-3, claimed a share of first place.
Eric Eigenhuis (3-2) struck out 11 and Nate Lynch punched a run-scoring double during a three-run fourth inning as the visiting Bears (9-4) beat Shadle Park 4-2 to tie idle Gonzaga Prep for first.
Losing pitcher Eric Hayden (3-1) struck out seven and walked one for the Highlanders (7-5), who started the day as one of six teams within one game of first.

At West Valley, Brian Lawler had a fourth-inning grand slam and Jason Phillipe (5-1) tossed a four-hitter to lead the Eagles (7-6) to a 10-0 win over visiting Cheney (10-5) in the first game of a doubleheader.
In the second game, Trevor Webber’s two-run double in the 10th helped the Blackhawks to a 10-9 win. Lawler went 3 for 5, including a solo homer in the 10th.
At Chattaroy, Bradey Noble’s three-run homer in the sixth helped visiting Colville (10-5) to a 7-2 win in the second game and a sweep of Riverside (0-16).
Brandon True went 3 for 5, with two RBIs, as the Indians won the opener 16-9. Riverside’s Erin Johnson homered.

Rebecca Triplett (3-2) pitched a one-hitter and Tricia Stookey hit a solo homer in the first as visiting EV (8-4) beat Riverside 16-0 at Chattaroy to complete a doubleheader sweep.
Angela Overdorff hit a three-run homer in the second and Malea Schumacher had a solo shot in the sixth as the Knights won the opener 17-2. The Rams are 0-10.

The four-way race for first place tightened as Matt Mischke had one goal and one assist to guide visiting Riverside/ Deer Park (9-4-0) to a 3-1 win over first-place East Valley (10-2-1, 11-3-1).
Seth McKay and Chris Koesel also scored for R/DP, which has 18 points and is one point behind second-place Cheney and West Valley.
Cheney (9-4-1, 9-3-1) and WV (9-2-3, 8-1-3) made up slight ground on EV during a 1-all tie at Cheney. WV’s Ryan Kirkingburg scored at 27 minutes, followed shortly by Nick Reynolds’ goal on a pass from Paul Malisani.
At Colville, Andy John scored three goals to lead Medical Lake (7-5-2, 5-5-2) to a 6-2 win over the Indians (0-11-1).
At Pullman, Tim Schotzko scored with 20 minutes left to allow the Greyhounds (2-9-1) to tie Clarkston 1-1. Will Smith, on an assist from Shawn Sattler, scored early in the second half for Clarkston (1-8-3).
