Clearing the bases

The New York Yankees’ David Cone was back at the ballpark, explaining that he underwent an angiogram at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital on Friday - a procedure that determined he has a circulation problem in his pitching hand.

He said he is taking blood-thinning medication and has been told to eliminate any use of nicotine - he is a smoker - as well to moderate consumption of alcohol and caffeine.

In any case, Cone said he threw “fairly well” on the side Sunday and expects to start Thursday against the White Sox.

Mark Kiefer, who balked home the winning run in the Milwaukee’s loss to Seattle on Saturday, was designated for assignment… . Cleveland’s Sandy Alomar Jr. has a 13-game hitting streak… . His brother, Roberto, had three hits for Baltimore, giving him a club-record 34 hits in April.
