Agencies Cooperate To Nab Drunken Drivers

From Staff And Wire Reports

Three North Idaho police agencies will join together this month to crack down on drunken drivers.

Four Coeur d’Alene Police C.A.R.E. officers along with three Kootenai County sheriff’s deputies and four Idaho State Police officers will begin patrolling the Coeur d’Alene area this weekend, looking specifically for drunken drivers.

“I think this time of year there is more drinking and driving,” said Coeur d’Alene C.A.R.E. officer Randy Miller. “It’s a collective effort among the agencies to get together and tackle a pretty big problem around here.”

Seventy eight people died in drunken driving accidents in Idaho last year, according to statistics from the Idaho Transportation Department. Nearly 2,000 people were injured in such accidents.

In Kootenai County last year, seven people died in alcohol-related accidents and 177 people were injured, according to the ITD. , DataTimes
