M’S Extend Player Deal With Tacoma
The Seattle Mariners and their triple-A farm club, the Tacoma Rainiers of the Pacific Coast League, have signed a four-year extension of their player-development contract.
The agreement covers the 1997-2000 PCL seasons.
The relationship is wonderful for the Mariners and Puget Sound baseball fans, said Larry Beinfest, the American League team’s director of player development.
“Fans can watch our top prospects develop at the Triple-A level and then make their Major League debuts just up the road in Seattle,” he said, adding that the proximity of the two clubs “has been a huge benefit from a baseball operations standpoint.”
The Mariners announced a four-year extension of their contract with the Class A Midwest League Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Monday.
The club now has long-term agreements with four of its minor-league affiliates - all but the Southern League (AA) Port City Roosters in Wilmington, N.C.
