Honoraries At UI Select Area Students As Members

The University of Idaho recently granted several area students membership into Phi Sigma Society, the biological sciences honorary:

Bonners Ferry: Emmajean Taylor, biology major and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Taylor.

Coeur d’Alene: Staci Middleton, a zoology major and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lannie Middleton.

Hayden Lake: Todd Garwood, a zoology major and son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Garwood.

Kellogg: Heather Wise, a biology major and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Wise.

Moscow: Gwen Nikora, a zoology major, and Shelley Thomas, a psychology major.

Naples: Lisa Frederickson, a zoology major and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Frederickson.

Post Falls: Toby Wilson, a forest resources major and son of Dorothy Wilson.

Phi Sigma Society members must meet the criteria of being a junior in residence at UI at least one semester before election with a specific minimum cumulative grade-point average, completion of 12 course credits under the sciences listed in the UI catalog, a basis of interest in research, and good moral and ethical character.

The University of Idaho Chapter of Phi Upsilon Omicron has honored family and consumer sciences students with memberships. Students are required to have completed 40 credit hours with a minimum grade-point average of 3.0.

Two students, both from Moscow, who were honored are: Tina Huie, a child development and family relations major and daughter of Shing Huie; and Kellie Mandershield-Gregory, a child development and family relations major and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Manderscheid.

The University of Idaho Chapter of Sigma Xi, the scientific research honorary society, has named several area students to membership

Full member - Moscow: Michael Moser and Jason Stenzel, both senior instructors in chemistry.

Associate member - Sandpoint: Adrian Verwolf.

The University of Idaho history honorary, Phi Alpha Theta, has selected three Moscow students for membership. Students must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours of history classes, with six designated upper division, and have a minimum grade-point average of at least 3.1 in history courses with an overall grade-point average of at least 2.9.

They are: Naomi Ferguson, an English major and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Ferguson; Sara Gregory, a history major and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gregory; and David Morotz.

Area students selected for the Upward Bound Summer Program, an intensive educational service designed to serve at-risk students from the Nez Perce Reservation, the Coeur d’Alene Reservation and the Coeur d’Alene Mining District during the academic year and summer session, recently attended six weeks of study on the University of Idaho campus.

Students included: Sean Shelley, Carley Cassity, Monica Rosier, Natalie Bailey, Toya Bailey, Darci Hayes, Kristina Seals, Agi Kagak, Sally Stack, Dustin Coates and Jolinda West.

Participating students are usually high school sophomores or juniors who continue to participate in the summer program following their graduation. The program offers students a look at college life and provides learning adventures using science field trips, career site visits and cultural experiences.
