Rupert Council Opposes Initiative
The One Percent Initiative before voters in November has no supporters on the Rupert City Council.
The panel voted unanimously to oppose the measure after the Association of Idaho Cities asked the towns to take a stand on the issue.
Government entities oppose it because they say it will take money out of the state general fund to cover a shift of school funding from local property taxes. The association last June asked each member to declare its position. Since then, only 20 have responded, all against the initiative.
