Man Sentenced For Embezzlement

Gerald James Oats, 45, of Blackfoot, was sentenced in United States District Court to three years of probation for embezzlement from the Shoshone-Bannock Tribe.

Oats pleaded guilty to embezzling the funds while he was financial manager of the tribe.

As terms of probation, U.S. District Judge Lynn Winmill ordered Oats to pay restitution of $5,836 to the Shoshone-Bannock Tribe, and serve 200 hours of community service.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Federal Bureau of Investigation jointly investigated the case.
