Man Hit, Dragged By Car After Confrontation

Gita Sitaramiah Staff writer

Several teenagers are suspected of running their car into a 33-year-old man and dragging him down the highway, Kootenai County authorities said.

Eugene O. Lewis of Post Falls told investigators he was driving north on U.S. Highway 95 when three boys driving south threw a glass bottle at his vehicle.

Lewis turned around and followed the car to the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Bingo Casino, where both cars stopped, according to the sheriff’s department.

Lewis said he got out of his vehicle to confront the teenage driver when the other car accelerated and ran into him. The blow knocked Lewis partially into the driver’s side open window, authorities said.

Lewis said he held onto the door frame as the car accelerated but let go after the driver hit fourth gear.

The victim suffered abrasions over 70 percent of his shoulders and back, according to a sheriff’s report. His knees and elbows also were cut.

The juveniles were driving a white Volkswagen Sirocco.
