Bands Battle At Kidsweek

Always one of the major highlights of KidsWeek is the Battle of the Bands competition at Riverfront Park.

On Saturday in the Lilac Bowl, 12 local high school bands, covering a broad base of styles such as rock, alternative rock, heavy metal and instrumental music, will duel for the crowns of Best Band and People’s Choice.

The 12 were selected from 29 demo tapes sent to KidsWeek.

Some of the combos include Aunt Sophie’s Disease, Knogahyde, Typhoid Mary, Jimmy Hats and, my personal favorite, Sarah and the Catholic Girl.

All bands will be judged on effort, enthusiasm, originality, rhythm and timing, and technique. Many of these bands represent the future of the local music scene, so go root them on.

The competition lasts from 4-8 p.m. The event is free.
