Lawyer Says Fbi Has Wrong Man In Bombing

Compiled From Wire Services

The FBI ought to be convinced by now it has the wrong man in the Olympic park bombing, Richard Jewell’s lawyer said Wednesday, two weeks after the security guard emerged as a suspect.

“They must know. Do you know anybody in your experience who would be smart enough to do this and withstand this kind of scrutiny?” Watson Bryant said. “I’m not. I don’t think Richard is either.”

He said he is confident charges will not be filed against Jewell.

FBI spokesman Jay Spadafore did not immediately return a call for comment.

Jewell, 33, became the focus of the investigation days after the July 27 explosion that killed one person and injured 111 at Centennial Olympic Park. The death of a Turkish cameraman who suffered a heart attack rushing to the scene also is being called a homicide.
