Paulson Promoted

Compiled From Wire Services

Montana head football coach Mick Dennehy has promoted Kraig Paulson to assistant head coach.

Paulson, 32, is in his ninth season as an assistant coach with the Montana Grizzlies. Dennehy said he was “an obvious choice” for the new job, the position Dennehy held when Don Read retired as head coach in April.

Paulson will continue to coach the defensive line, which has produced six All-Big Sky Conference players in the past four years. The new job will add administrative duties.

Miami Hurricanes linebackers James Burgess and Jeffrey Taylor, suspended after being charged with felonies, pleaded no contest to reduced charges and could rejoin practice as early as Monday.

Burgess and Taylor had each faced a felony charge of burglary with assault and battery for their involvement in the beating of former track athlete Maxwell Voce at the school in June.

The charges were reduced to misdemeanors after the players provided statements to investigators.

Jammi German, a junior receiver suspended for the season, is charged with burglary with assault and battery in the case. He has pleaded innocent and his trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 15.

Michigan senior strong safety Clarence Thompson, an All-Big Ten selection last year, is academically ineligible this season, coach Lloyd Carr announced.
