Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: I have always had a hard time cutting brownies, bar cookies, crispy rice treats, etc. into even-size bars.

Today, I discovered that dry spaghetti can be placed on top of the treat and used as a guide for cutting straight. I hope this is a new idea and that your readers find it helpful. - Anne, Woodbridge, Va.

Dear Heloise: Old dogs can learn new tricks, and this old dog (77) found a new way to protect my hands when painting.

I put oil on my hands and left only enough so I would be able to hold a brush. As usual, I had almost as much paint on my hands as I did on the window I was working on.

I took a clean rag, which removed the paint from my hands, and a little soap and water finished the job. - Arthur Hatch, Voorheesville, N.Y.
