Dear Heloise: Before I start painting any room in the house, I open the gallon container and, with a hammer and nail, punch holes along the rim of the can so the paint will run back inside instead of outside the can. It works great. - Jeanette Bilka, Latham, N.Y.

Dear Heloise: Here is my tip for you. I have done this many times.

Furniture leaves a dent in your carpet. To restore the pile of the carpet, lay ice cubes in the dent (pile will come back quickly as the cube melts). Or, leave the cube overnight.

Don’t worry about water damage - there’s not that much water in a cube of ice. Hope you try this. - Rose Munjas, Clifton Park, N.Y.
