Turbulence Injures Passengers, Crew

Compiled From Wire Services

A USAir 737 made an emergency landing Thursday after suddenly dropping several hundred feet, injuring some crew and passengers. Turbulence apparently caused the descent, an airline spokesman said.

Flight 232 was en route to Indianapolis from Tampa, Fla., when it apparently hit an air pocket, spokesman David Castelveter said. The plane quickly stabilized after the drop, he said.

The plane, which had 83 people on board, landed safely. Five people were hospitalized for treatment of fractures or sprains.
