Deepak Chopra Shares His Philosophy In Person

Deepak Chopra, the mind/body guru of the ‘90s, returns to Spokane Sunday.

Conscious Living, a Spokane center for continuing education, will bring him to the Red Lion Hotel for a 2 p.m. lecture.

Chopra, bestselling author of “Ageless Body, Timeless Mind” and “Seven Spiritual Laws of Success,” will address intuition, meditation and the importance of listening to the body’s wisdom. His books have sold 6 million copies.

A former chief of staff at New England Memorial Hospital and faculty member at Tufts University School of Medicine, Chopra has abandoned his medical practice. He is now the chairman of the Chopra Center for Well Being in San Diego.

He combines Western medicine with the Ayurvedic healing traditions, such as herbal cures, of India.

His fans include Demi Moore, Naomi Judd and George Harrison. Detractors have included the editors of the Journal of the American Medical Association. Chopra’s defamation suit against J.A.M.A. was settled in 1993.

This much is certain: Spokane’s full of Chopra fans. His last lecture here three years ago sold out.

Chopra’s next book, which is due out in January, is called “The Path to Love: Creating a Passionate Life.” On Sunday, his followers will likely show up, empassioned.

Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door. They’re available at Open Door and New Dawn bookstores in Spokane, Gateway Gardens in Coeur d’Alene, and through Conscious Living. Call 624-1873.
