Katie Smrka-Duffy scored 22 points and Chasity Melvin added 16 Sunday, leading 12th-ranked North Carolina State over No. 4 Alabama 91-81 Sunday in the championship of the San Juan shootout at San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The Wolfpack (6-2) trailed 44-37 at halftime. North Carolina State tied the score at 48 on Dominique Canty’s basket with 14:03 remaining.

After 11 lead changes, the Wolfpack finally went ahead for good at 74-72 on Smrka-Duffy’s basket with 4:02 to go.

Shalonda Enis scored 23 points for Alabama (2-2), while Leah Monteith added 19 and Yolanda Watkins 15. Lyschale Jones added 15 points for North Carolina State.

(1) Stanford 77, Michigan 74

Kate Starbird made two free throws with 14 seconds to play to give the top-ranked Cardinal (6-0) their victory over the Wolverines (5-1) in the championship game of the Rainbow Wahine Classic at Honolulu.

Starbird, who finished with 15 points, nearly became the goat when she missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 20 seconds left and Stanford ahead 75-71.

Molly Miller followed with a 3-pointer for Michigan 8 seconds later to make it a one-point game before Starbird redeemed herself with the clinching free throws.

(14) Virginia 65, (7) Vanderbilt 49

Tora Suber scored 22 points, including four 3-pointers, and the Cavaliers (3-1) defeated the Commodores (2-1) at Charlottesville, Va.

Virginia scored 23 points off Vanderbilt turnovers and finished with a 49-34 rebound advantage. DeMya Walker had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Cavaliers.
