Snow Sport Report

Alpine skiing

It’s another extremely poor weekend to be a snow-hater.

Idaho: Skiers and riders can test new skis and boards during LouLou’s Demo Days at Schweitzer on Sunday. Silver Mountain’s glades from the top of Chair 2 have been nice all week.

Washington: Power problems solved, 49 Degrees North re-opens opens Friday through Sunday with 8 feet on top. Latest info: 880-9208.

British Columbia: Both Red Mountain in Rossland and Whitewater near Nelson run today through Sunday. Red Mountain goes full-time on Dec. 11, with Whitewater opening seven days a week on Dec. 14.

Nordic skiing

Quartz Mountain trail contractors plowed the road through Mount Spokane’s Nordic trail system on Monday. But all the equipment was pulled out - no more bulldozers on the trails ‘til season end. Also, power has been restored to Mount Spokane. The ski trails info line is working again at 238-4025.

Olympian Laura McCabe offers a skating clinic on Saturday in the Methow Valley. Time-trials at 9 a.m. at the Chickadee day parking lot. Info: (509) 996-3287.

Backcountry snow conditions on the Idaho Panhandle are extremely unsettled. Hydrologists say backcountry travellers are advised to stay on marked Nordic and snowmobile trails. Updates: (208) 765-7323.

Snowmobiling

Mount Spokane trails finally were groomed Monday and Tuesday.

Spokane Winters Knights snowmobile club is appealing for volunteers to help clear the snarl of downed trees from trails in North and South Baldy areas. Snow is plentiful, but the groomer can’t operate until obstructions are removed. Another work party is set for Saturday, 9 a.m. at Kings Lake parking lot. Info: (509) 238-6733.
