State Office Clears Bsu Student Group
The secretary of state’s office has rejected claims that the Boise State University student association violated state campaign financing laws in opposing the tax-capping One Percent Initiative.
In a letter to Dan Nabors, president of Associated Students of Boise State University, the secretary of state’s office said the association was not required to file spending disclosure reports because it had not spent more than $500 to fight the initiative and had not received any political contributions.
Initiative backer John Slack, who is also a student at Boise State, filed the complaint six days before the November election, claiming it was improper for the student government organization to print brochures opposing the One Percent Initiative without identifying who paid for them.
Voters rejected the initiative by nearly two-to-one.
