Cougars Land Two On District 8 All-Star Volleyball Team

Washington State volleyball players Sarah Silvernail and Stephanie Papke have been named to the Kaepa/ACVA All-District 8 team.

Silvernail, a senior middle blocker from Tacoma, was named to the 12-member team for the third time.

The Cougars, ranked No. 9 nationally, play Loyola Marymount on Friday at Stanford, Calif., to open the NCAA Tournament Pacific Regional.

The Cougars’ match against Loyola will be broadcast live on KTRW (970 AM) in Spokane and KRPL (1400 AM) in Pullman. The pregame show begins at 6 p.m., with the match to follow at 7. Should the Cougars win Friday, their match at 7 p.m. Saturday will be broadcast by both stations.

Idaho candidates released

Nine names have been released as a potential successor to Jerry Conley, who left as director of the Idaho Fish and Game Department in October to take a similar post in Missouri. A new director is expected by Christmas.

Candidates include Allen Elser, Vermont wildlife commission director; Calvin Groen, Idaho Natural Resources Policy Bureau chief; Herb Pollard, Idaho Fish and Game regional supervisor in Lewiston; and Steve Huffaker, Idaho Fish and Game fisheries chief.

Also: John Kimball, Utah Wildlife Resources Division assistant director; Bruce McClosky, Colorado Wildlife Division deputy director; Ron Somerville, natural resource consultant for Alaska Legislature; Tracey Trent, Idaho F&G regional supervisor in Nampa; and Steve Mealey, leader of Forest Service’s Columbia Basin Ecosystem Management Project.
