Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: To discourage germs, mold and mildew on kitchen sponges, after rinsing and squeezing tightly, I place them on a sunny windowsill on a raised soap dish. Likewise, I hang dishcloths and washcloths where they can air-dry. I live in a very humid climate and during the summer mildew seems to be everywhere, especially on and under things left on the rim of the bathtub. So, I also store the plug, shampoo brush, etc. on the windowsill. The sun kills off the mildew. I also keep the shower curtain spread instead of bunched up so it can dry faster. - Evelyn from New Orleans

Dear Heloise: My sound off is emergency sounds (ambulance, sirens, etc.) in children’s cassette tapes, or any music that has those sirens! I almost had a wreck trying to pull over off the road because of what I thought was a police car or fire truck! - A Texas Mother
