Mccall Up A Tree After His Arrest
Former WBC heavyweight champion Oliver McCall was arrested Monday after Nashville, Tenn., police said he threw a Christmas tree in a hotel lobby and spat on a police car.
Around midnight, the boxer had thrown a drinking glass and an ashtray in the Crowne Plaza Hotel’s bar along with the Christmas tree in the lobby, police said.
After officers asked McCall to leave, the boxer spat on a police car, shouted abusive language and resisted arrest after they decided to take him into custody, police said.
He was charged with vandalism, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
McCall, scheduled to fight Lennox Lewis early next year for the vacant WBC heavyweight title, pleaded guilty earlier this month to one count of possession of a controlled substance. He was placed on 18 months probation at that time.
Former WBC junior middleweight champion John “The Beast” Mugabi made a victorious comeback to boxing after a five-year absence.
The 36-year-old Mugabi gave away weight and youth, but scored a 10-round majority points decision over Australian cruiserweight champion Peter Kinsella in a non-title bout in front of just 700 people in Southport, Australia.
Ugandan-born Mugabi, who once headlined in Las Vegas and London, improved his professional record to 39-4. All of his 38 previous wins had come by knockout, as have all his losses.
