Dear Nancy: I am a very active elderly person. I have had some health problems but they seem to be over now. I had this dream and felt very upbeat when I awoke. Does it foretell better times? - Elizabeth
I am looking at my house from a distance. I am very worried that I must sell my house because others want to buy it. The buyers have moved a trailer house onto my front yard. This disturbs me greatly. The scene changes. I am standing in my living room with a loved one. The sun is streaming in the windows. It is colorful, bright and lovely. I see that there are now six windows in my living room (there is really only one). Someone tells me, “You don’t have to sell your house just because someone wants to buy it.”
Dear Elizabeth: In your dream you feel invaded and pressured to sell your home. In our phone conversation I asked, “Is there a situation in your life that causes similar feelings?” You shared with me that your home is right next to a large university and they have been trying to buy your property for years.
Even though your answer is always “No” they continue to approach you. This sense you have of being invaded is depicted by the trailer in your front yard. They won’t take no for an answer!
Inside your home the sun is streaming in the windows. It is light and beautiful and this sunlight brings clarity and wisdom. The six windows suggest that your perception of the situation has expanded and now you can see more clearly.
The message is strong and clear, Elizabeth, and it supports you in your decision not to sell. Hopefully, this dream will give you relief from the pressure you’ve been feeling regarding this issue.
Tips for readers: Do you take note of the colors in your dreams? Dream researchers have found that nearly everyone dreams in color. Throughout the world color is an important part of every symbol system. Our response to color is instantaneous and it affects our moods and mental state.
Recalling and reflecting on the colors in our dreams can be a key element in good dream work. Even though the different colors have particular symbolism that is used throughout the world, as dreamers we must remember to consider our own individual associations with the colors that appear in our dreams.
Some of the principle colors and their meanings are:
Red: Passion, energy, anger, danger, sexuality, life force. May be a signal for you to “stop.”
Blue: Peace, spirituality, compassion, loyalty. Can also represent “the blues” as in sadness and depression.
Yellow: Mental intelligence, awareness, associations with the sun bringing illumination and wisdom. Can also represent cowardice and timidity.
Black: Symbol of death, the unconscious, the unknown parts of ourselves, sorrow.
Green: New life, growth, healing force, envy and jealousy, creativity. May signal you to “go” or proceed with your plans.
Purple or violet: Royalty, spiritual protection, mystery, atonement, higher consciousness.
White: Purity, innocence, virginity, truth, spiritual light, God.
