Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: I heartily agree with the reader who said it’s sad mayonnaise companies no longer use the wide-mouthed jars. Those old jars were much easier to use over and over. We recycled them continuously. Manufacturers, can’t you go back to the good jars? - Delores Schakel, Mount Ida, Ark.

Other uses for egg cartons:

Use empty foam egg cartons as boot trees.

Great for storing Christmas-tree ornaments.

Use to organize costume jewelry for a garage sale.

Cut individual cups out of cardboard egg cartons to make fire starters.

Cut up for lightweight drainage material in potted plants.

Dear Heloise: A good hint for the little ones: The crunched-up packing paper you get in boxes of stuff ordered through the mail works great for coloring on when smoothed out.

It’s usually one big piece. - Patty Schroeder, Oshkosh, Wis.
